Just about an hour away by train is Rome's St Peter's Basilica and set back from the coast is the quaint nearby town of Montalto di Castro, deep in the Etruscan heartland near Tarquinia and Pitigliano.
This estate is ideal for a relaxing holiday amongst extensive lawns, ancient olive trees and cultivated farmland. Simply spectacular is the pool with bleeding edge, jacuzzi and shady furnished terraces. Not content with that, a mere one and a half kilometres away, guests can also relax on the black sand beaches of Montalto Marina, overlooked by the small Mediterranean islands of Giglio and Giannutri.
There are twelve air-conditioned apartments on this property, all with their own covered verandas for al fresco dining, two are on offer here. Within each, attention to detail abounds, with monogrammed towels and lamp shades for instance. There is also a Club House and Lounge for communal relaxing.
The road to the coast runs past the property, allowing guests to reach the sea in a few minutes, however there is some intermittent traffic noise. The owners reside on site, and a tree-lined driveway leads to ample parking.
The swimming pool is irregularly shaped and measures 30m x 15m by 1.5m deep.
The on request services of continental breakfast served in your apartment (€12,00 per person) and a Menu of the Day buffet brunch and dinner served in the pool area (€15,00 to €30,00 per person), are available. All apartments are tastefully furnished and have satellite TV and direct telephone.
This apartment, number 11, has a shared porch with number 12. You enter into an L-shaped, traditional beamed sitting/dining room with a sofa bed and kitchen corner. The kitchen corner has all the facilities you could need on a relaxing holiday in Italy - sink, fridge, microwave, 2 gas ring stove, and coffee machine. French windows lead throught to the terrace from this room. In addition, on the ground floor is the brand new shower room with WC and hairdryer. A staircase leads to the mezzanine floor, which has a double bed, and looks over the sitting/dining room with en-suite WC.
There is so much to recommend Lazio - the unprecedented quality of its art and history, the unspoilt hilly landscapes, and clear freshwater lakes. Not to mention the food, drink and shopping! Northern Lazio is home to the fascinating Monumento Naturals della Caldara - a bubbling hot water pool, complete with sulphurous egg smell (guaranteed to amuse the children!). You can swim in the clear waters of the lake at Bracciano, followed by a tasty lakeside meal of freshly caught fish. Meanwhile, at Cerveteri and Tarquinia you will find the marvelously preserved tombs and wall-paintings of the mysterious Etruscans. In Southern Lazio you can sight see at Tivoli, with its imperial Roman Villa Adriana, or at the romantic Renaissance Villa d’Este. If country walks are more tempting, try the unbelievably picturesque tree-bordered crater lake at Nemi, dedicated to the goddess Diana and forming part of the ring of volcanoes because Nemi is one of the Alban Hills. Further south still, you can catch a le ferry from Anzio to the Pontine Islands, with their beautiful pastel-painted houses. Back on the mainland, continue on to the amazing Emperor Tiberius’s Grotto, via the ancient acropolis of Anxur, perched above the coastal town of Terracina.
