A beautifully converted grain silo, towering over farmland

It is a fully equipped cylindrical house 20 minutes by car or train due west of Rome. Nido d'Amore means love nest and that's exactly what's on offer - a romantic and stylish hideaway for a couple who also wish to be on the doorstep of one of the most romantic cities on earth. Renovated from top to bottom in 2001, the interior is immaculate including insect screens on all windows.

Fourteen steps lead up from the front door into a lovely beamed kitchen/dining room. This is equipped with double sink unit, waist-high oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and 5 ring gas stove. Also on this first floor is a small shower room, WC and washing machine.

Fourteen further stone steps up takes you to the delightful first floor sitting room with wood floor, beamed ceiling and TV.

Fifteen stone steps up from here is a small second floor landing, off which there is a large shower room with "his" and "hers" sinks. The single bedded room is also located at this level.

A final fourteen stone steps up to third floor takes you into the spacious double bedded room. This comes complete with en-suite, TV and built-in wardrobes. Via a studio-mezzanine floor, you can finally reach a door that leads to small top floor balcony.

The walk-round garden is completely fenced-in and illuminated. It is mainly gravel with plum, lemon and apricot trees. A lovely covered dining area to the rear, with farmland views, is furnished and has a large barbeque and sink. Children are not allowed at this property because of the circular design and lack of interior stair banisters.

The wonderful sandy beaches of Maccarese, and pine-covered Fregene are just 10 minutes away.

Rome's two international airports are just 15 and 45 minutes away so Il Nido d'Amore is a very attractive short break option or a great base if you are looking to avoid Rome's high hotel costs. The proximity of Leonardo da Vinci airport does mean that there is some intermittent aircraft noise. Maccarese rail station is just a short walk away, wher you can catch frequent cheap trains that go to St Peter's, Trastevere and the main central Termini rail station. A supermarket, shops, bank and chemist are a mere one kilometre away.
