A trullo in all but the cones, this wonderful cottage was renovated from top to bottom with absolutely no expense spared in 2006, and blends beautifully with into the chocolate-brown landscape, the white field walls and the centuries-old olive groves, which also house the magnificent swimming pool also. It is a perfect holiday retreat for two couples or a family.
The main entrance leads into a spacious living/dining room with open fireplace, where you can enjoy peaceful evenings. Sliding doors take you into a compact but well-equipped kitchen that has a gas stove, oven, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and sink. Sleeping accommodation is provided by two very comfortable twin/double bedrooms. The house also enjoys a shower room and has many conveniences, such as a washing machine.
Air conditioning in the sitting room and bedrooms is included in the price.
The town of San Michele Salentino is a mere 2 kilometres away (walking distance) and has the essential range of shops, banks, chemists etc. This being the Ionian-Salentinian area of Apulia, touring around is a delight - discovering abandoned beaches (the nearest 23 kilometres away), enjoying un-crowded unhurried towns and appreciating the sheer variety of the architecture and art. The grounds are naturally shady, fenced in, with al fresco dining area and barbecue. The furnished swimming pool (completion May 2007) has an outside shower. There is ample parking for guests with hire cars.

If you have already toured the northern part of Italy and are looking for something equally fascinating, completely different and much less crowded, this is a wonderful area to consider. It offers at least one excellent archeological museum, a host of cathedrals dating back to the 10th century, several deserted - and thus highly atmospheric - Greek and Roman ruins, a gleaming necklace of lively fishing villages, one of Europe's largest forests, a chain of medieval hill towns, and some of the very cleanest beaches and water in the Mediterranean. It also has its own subspecies of architecture, called barocco leccese. Characterized by extremely ornate carvings that cover the entire surface of churches and palazzi, its apex is reached in the delighttful little city of Lecce.
There is one other attraction that you will see only in Apulia, and that is Trulli (singular, “Trullo”). Whitewashed cones made of stones held together without mortar, they are visible in almost every wheat field and olive grove, where they serve as miniature barns. But they are at their most picturesque when clustered together in the hundreds, to form a town. This is Alberobello, and it's a wonderful site you will never forget.
The region is served by direct flights to the region's two main airports at Bari and Brindisi.
