Trullo La Quercia is crowned rather regally with three conical roofs, and faces a large oak tree from which it takes its name. Completely restored and renovated in 2004, the fixtures, furnishings and tiling are of the highest quality and all display loving and careful touches.
The front door is across a delightful terrace, perfect for al fresco meals, especially in the evening when guests can witness the sun going down over orchards and olive groves. Entering into a dining area, you are greeted with the perfect opportunity to relax and unwind, even complete with an open fireplace. Through an arch takes you into a cosy seating area and beyond there is a beautiful kitchen, equipped with double sink unit, fridge, 5 ring gas hob and oven. Immaculately tiled mosaics adorn the shower room bringing some authentic Italian glamour to the room. At night, you can sleep easy in the twin bedded and double bedded bedrooms, both of which have a very tranquil atmosphere.
The proud owners live next door in a separate villa and, between the two properties, there is a stone pizza oven and barbecue area. A 10m x 5m swimming pool has been constructed so close to the front door that it's only around 20 paces for a refreshing dip to be yours for the taking! Elevated slightly higher than the surrounding Apulia flatlands the air is more cooling here.
The property is just off a quiet secondary road with ample parking.
Seated just 6 kilometres from Locorotondo, a town-on-high that resembles Jerusalem. The glorious Adriatic is a mere 20 kilometres at Torre Canne and, closer to home, shops are to be found just 40 metres away.
Puglia is Italy's boot heel, its Southeastern most region.
If you have already toured the northern part of Italy and are looking for something equally fascinating, completely different and much less crowded, this is a wonderful area to consider. It offers at least one excellent archeological museum, a host of cathedrals dating back to the 10th century, several deserted - and thus highly atmospheric - Greek and Roman ruins, a gleaming necklace of lively fishing villages, one of Europe's largest forests, a chain of medieval hill towns, and some of the very cleanest beaches and water in the Mediterranean. It also has its own subspecies of architecture, called barocco leccese. Characterized by extremely ornate carvings that cover the entire surface of churches and palazzi, its apex is reached in the delighttful little city of Lecce.
There is one other attraction that you will see only in Apulia, and that is Trulli (singular, “Trullo”). Whitewashed cones made of stones held together without mortar, they are visible in almost every wheat field and olive grove, where they serve as miniature barns. But they are at their most picturesque when clustered together in the hundreds, to form a town. This is Alberobello, and it's a wonderful site you will never forget.
The region is served by direct flights to the region's two main airports at Bari and Brindisi.
