As could be expected from a villa of its age, Villa II Padrino's large rooms have high ceilings, creating a cool atmosphere. The solid furnishings are in keeping with the style of the building, and the bathrooms are newly installed and nicely tiled. Although a modern kitchen has been completed, the original kitchen has been saved as a relic and is quite amazing.
Shady areas have been furnished for dining out, but the front of the house also has a circular furnished terrace that is open to the sun and a magnificent vista. On a lower level, the owners have installed an above-ground swimming pool.
You enter this villa into the furnished hall, from which you enter the living/dining room that has doors which lead onto the front terrace. The kitchen is well-equipped with a hob, oven and fridge/freezer and leads onto the distinctive, antique breakfast room/kitchen. There are two double bedrooms, one of which has access to the front terrace. The other has an ensuite bathroom with an exit to the front terrace. Furthermore, there is one twin bedroom, one single bedroom, one shower room with WC and a bathroom with hip bath, shower, WC and washing machine.
Please note: late arrivals after 20:00 hours will be charged at a cost of 50 Euros. There is a final cleaning charge of 110 Euros. The cost of hiring a cot is 50 Euros per week. All fees are payable locally.
Milo is a summer, hillside resort founded in the 14th century and having a scattering of old, dignified villas. Villa Il Padrino is 500 metres above the village at the end of a one hundred metre driveway from a secondary road and set in immense grounds with tall, mature trees.
For immediate provisions there are a few shops and restaurants in the village of Milo and three kilometres away at Zafferana is a wider range. Just thirty kilometres from Catania, the region offers much for culture vultures, relaxation in the mildness of the climate and fun at the village summer festivals.
Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. It might be just a short journey from the Italian mainland, across the narrow strait of Messina, but it is a completely different in terms of atmosphere and attitude. Everything Italian seems a little more appetising here, not only the food but the history and culture as well.
Visitors discover that the Sicilian people are gracious, noble and welcoming and that the island itself offers natural and historic attractions of great beauty and enormous interest.
The main cities of Palermo and Catania feature some of the most exquisite architecture in the world, a legacy of the many great civilisations that have vied for control of this strategically situated island over the centuries, from the Greeks and Romans, Arabs and Normans to more recently the French, Spanish and Italians. There are large Romanesque cathedrals, the best-preserved Greek temples in the world, Roman amphitheatres and magnificent Baroque palaces. The continuous blue skies and temperate climate, lush vegetation and rich marine life all add to the island's appeal. Nature has given Sicily Mount Etna, Europe's tallest active volcano, a dramatic coastline and a fertile soil that gives forth much of the bounty on which the island's unique and delicious cuisine is based.
